Day 3-6 | Edinburgh, Scotland | Heather Michelle Photography

Hey everyone!

So sorry about the delay. The past couple of days have been jammed packed and full of activities. Blogging has been a little more difficult in the past few days. Ben and I are currently on a train to London and figured it would be a great time to blog about our previous days in Edinburgh, Scotland

Day 3: We were still in Newcastle, England. We watched a proper football game versus Sunderland/Newcastle. Okay, I thought American football was intense BUT you have never seen spirit or dedication until you are in a pub with 25 grown men cheering, kissing, and hugging over a goal. I also had the pleasure to hear a variety of english sayings that Leanne told me I probably shouldn’t go saying to many people. đŸ™‚

Day 4: We left for Scotland about half way through the day and arrived around 4:00pm. Our flat was so comfy and we walked around town finding an amazing restaurant owned by an American who moved to Scotland. They have the BEST burgers in town. I had a Teriyaki burger with cajun fries and Ben had BBQ Bacon burger! I ended up leaving my jacket here…surprise, surprise! So, I am learning that our travel days fly by pretty quickly. They are amazing though because we have gotten wonderful views of the countryside and it keeps us away from having to rent a car and drive on our own. I still can’t get used to everything being the opposite here!

Day 5: Oh man…this day was equally AWESOME as it was stressful. At the end of the day Ben and I both looked at each other and said “Well, that was interesting!” I went to Radford University and it is known for their Scottish heritage. We have festivals celebrating the highlands and eating haggis. So naturally, I wanted to do some sort of tour through the Highlands. We loaded the bus at 7:45 in the morning and would not be dropped off until 8pm. Our tour guide wore a kilt and told just about the corniest jokes imaginable. If we didn’t laugh, he would just assume we were asleep or not morning, or afternoon people. If we did participate he would tell us to behave ourselves! Now that I think about it, he did make us laugh and was SO friendly. He joked about not having a license…and guys! By the end of the tour, I was questioning if that was a joke or not. We were flying down those scottish roads as if we were in hot pursuit. Some of the pictures you see of me on the blog are looking rough because so many of us on the bus were feeling motion sickness. We arrived at Loch Ness (Loch means Lake!) to see the beautiful Urquhart castle (pronounced Urr-cut) and took a boat ride to try to find the Loch Ness Monster. It was a wonderful day full of the most beautiful scenery but by 8pm, I was exhausted!

Day 6: We decided to take it easy. Thank goodness we did! I feel as if we had not stopped moving until that moment. We decided to visit the Edinburgh castle and learn all about Mary, Queen of Scots. The royal jewels were still in the castle and displayed for all to see. Unfortunately, there was no photography or videos allowed inside of the castle, so I don’t have those to show to you. We had steak pies for lunch, yummy! I was addicted to listening to a scottish bagpiper on the street and even filmed it on instagram. We went window shopping and grabbed some goodies to take home. At about 4 we decided to head back to our place out of pure exhaustion. We had reservations at 7pm and figured we could use some down time. Our dinner was at the Harvey Nicols 4th floor restaurant…on the 4th floor! We had a skyline view of the entire city and it was breathtaking. If you know Ben, he hosts trivia in the states every Wednesday. Naturally, he found a place that was hosting one as well. We showed up with our GAME FACES on! haha just kidding, we grabbed a drink and sat down like normal people would. We ended up meeting two awesome Scottish guys, Murray & Murray, who ended up being on our team. We did pretty well for being Americans and came in 5th! The top score was 40.5 and we had 38, so the game was pretty close! The Murray’s found out that we had not had proper haggis yet and told us about a place down the street with some. We decided to go and man….haggis is really freaking good! Like…really good. For those of you who don’t know what haggis is, you really don’t want to know what it’s made of, just that it’s very tasty!

I hope you liked our blog today and we will keep you guys in the loop about all of our adventures! We are off to London đŸ™‚

026A7467Right outside our house! We were tucked away in a residential section that was a 5 minute walk from the center of the city.026A7466026A7462026A7461026A7469026A7477026A7472026A7488Edinburgh Castle took my breath away.
